Why AI is about to supercharge the process of drug discovery. Insilico Medicine, an AI-driven biotech company which has offices in both New York and in Hong Kong, announced that its new AI-designed drug ISM3312 for COVID-19 has entered Phase I clinical trials. This achievement cannot be understated, as it took less than 2.5 years to go from target discovery to phase I, a process which on average takes 10.5 years and costs more than £800 million. Insilico Medicine has achieved this milestone through AI systems like PandaOmics for target discovery and Chemistry42 for generating molecules, which Insilico used to identify and optimise ISM3312. In preclinical studies, ISM3312 "significantly reduced" viral load in lung tissue and decreased lung inflammation, the company stated in the release. Insilico's end-to-end AI has the potential to significantly accelerate and improve drug discovery. With two dozen internal programs and plans for digitizing clinical trials, Insilico is showing how AI and human intelligence can transform biopharma R&D. #ai #medicine #randd #pharmaindustry #future

Last year ended on news of some major AI - Pharma collaborations, and 2024 is starting strong on this front too, with 2 major deals announced with Alphabet Isomorphic partnering with both Eli Lilly and Novartis. Alphabets AI platform is able to predict protein structure and so could potentially speed up target discovery and compound construction. These deals are worth almost $ 3 billion combined, showing huge confidence in the positive effect AI could have on drug discovery. https://lnkd.in/eesvnfAu
