Last month, Dr Lawrence Yang represented HDC at OSCARCON ’23 in Vancouver. HDC was a sponsor of this event which brought together OSCAR BC EMR users, partners, service providers, developers and academics from across Canada. Dr. Yang’s presentation, HDC Discover: QI & PCN Planning shared his personal experience with work related burnout and how he managed to set boundaries and make impact at a systems level. Dr. Yang explored the role data played in streamlining his practice and improving quality of care for not only his patients but himself. “When each neighborhood in BC chooses to use aggregated population data, we can make informed decisions. We can use true population trends to determine what we’re adopting, adapting and abandoning for our communities. HDC Discover is designed to show us whether or not we're making a change in our improvement. I'm happy to share our latest work, published in HSR, that examines changes in hospitalization trends and healthcare utilization among Veterans following Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION) Act implementation. "Conclusion Enhanced supports for improving care coordination, discharge education, and post-discharge follow-up had mixed or neutral effectiveness for improving the patient experience with care, compared to standard care or simpler improvement approaches. There is a need to advance the body of evidence on how to improve the patient experience with discharge support and transitional approaches."

While this is healthcare focused, I think it applies to all industries as far as getting outside perspective on and reviewing incidents, customer service, polices, procedures, safety, etc.

I am thrilled that the first paper of my dissertation has been published! We report on the development and validation of the Treatment-Preference-Measure-Advance Care Planning (Treat-Me-ACP). An early-stage outcome instrument that uses hypothetical scenarios to measure the dynamics of patient preferences and complements the evaluation of the effectiveness of advance care planning interventions.
