BIG LIFE UPDATE: It’s a bittersweet announcement but I will be transitioning out of my role as Sr VP of Marketing for Viking Mergers & Acquisitions into a new opportunity. I wanted to say thanks so much to Jay Offerdahl Larry Lawson Larry Lawson III (Tripp) Christian A. Trevor Crocker Mike Donahue Mark Urbania Robert Aliota Dan Wilson Ben Knight Merrell Stout Kyle Kerrigan Jackson Payne Jeffery L. (Jeff) McKeehan Greg Ponder who taught me more than I could learn in a lifetime about selling and buying a business. I was brand new to the industry and there was a lot I didn’t know coming into M&A and business brokerage. Joining in the middle of a pandemic in May 2020 was a unique challenge and opportunity. And we went all in… With Mary Lou Winn, helping guide our processes and planning, we put our hands to the plow and since then we grew from 30+ to 60+ staff. We went from 7 to 12 offices, saw incredible transformation across the business. We learned a lot. We made mistakes. (I made A LOT of mistakes.) We tried things we never tried before. We learned some valuable lessons along the way. We reiterated and then we listed, launched and sold countless businesses time and time again. Adding Zayna Beckles in the rapidly growing Tampa office was a total game changer for our marketing team and she took us up a few levels right away. Haydn Flores and Ryan Finn you guys are game changers and had so much fun working with you both. Great things are ahead for the organization. I’m proud to say I have made lifelong mentors and friends through being apart of what Jay Offerdahl and the Viking team have built here. Truly an honor, a blessing, and while I’m sad to move on I will continue to be a RAVING FAN of Viking: if you are ever considering selling your business now or 5 years down the road. Contact Viking. "When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." - Alexander Graham Bell. This quote perfectly sums up the reality of missed licensing opportunities. But today, let's set the record straight - a failed licensing opportunity isn't a dead-end, it's an invitation to innovate. Recently, we had a licensing deal that fell through. While initially it stung, we didn't let that setback deter us. Instead, we saw it as an opportunity - a second chance to reassess our strategies, realign our vision, and renew our commitment to excellence. We went back to the drawing board, brainstormed creative alternatives, reconfigured our proposition, and returned stronger. Today, not only have we secured a more lucrative licensing deal, but we've also managed to forge a relationship with a partner that genuinely shares our values and vision. Remember, failure is not the opposite of success; it's part of it. So, the next time a licensing opportunity fails, don't see it as a loss. See it as a chance to turn things around. Last week's announcement about Melissa & Doug got endless coverage, but this interview stood out. Our CEO, Max Rangel, did a terrific interview with Toronto's CBC's Metro Morning last week. It's worth a full listen, but at one-point, Max mentions something so many Spin Master employees can identify with. People always tell us, "You think like a six-year-old." Why is it that people think business is supposed to be boring, grown-up, dry and uptight? The same ingredients that go into making a great toy--the creativity, the sense of adventure, the inventiveness, the spirit, and the sheer lust to have fun—are the same ingredients that go into making a great company.
