๐ฎ๐ณ India's middle class will spend $144 billion a year on international travel by the end of the decade. Brands from all over the world are increasingly interested in the Indian tourism market. India's growing middle class represents an economic potential that has become impossible to ignore. ๐ At Lyra, we responded to this enthusiasm by introducing the UPI payment system in France on the eve of the Olympic Games, a system already adopted by icons such as the Tour Eiffel to facilitate transactions for international visitors: UPI in 2023 represents 100+ billion transactions, for a global value of $2,000 billion. This Forbes article written by Suzanne Rowan Kelleher highlights the significant growth of the Indian middle class and its impact on international tourism. #DubaiSingapore #TwoWingsDesiDiaspora I have joked since years that Dubai and Singapore are the two wings of the Indian elites, actually South Asian elites! A recent report shows that 12 million of the 86.9 million passengers who used Dubai airport were Indians (about 14 percent) Saudis a far second at 6.7 million. These were including just transfer travellers. Dubai welcomed 17.15 million overnight visitors in Jan - Dec 2023, with an increase of +19% compared to Jan - Dec 2022. So of 86.9 million visitors through Dubai only 17.15 million stayed in Dubai . And India is highest tourists too at 2.2 million (about 13 percent). Next is Oman at 1.56 million and Saudi Arabia at 1.42 million. Next is buying real estate. British, Indian and Russian nationals were top investors in Dubai's real estate market in the first quarter of 2023. Previously, Indians topped the investors' chart in the local property market but slipped to third position last year and second in the first quarter of 2023. But later in 2023 Indians topped again ! Indians topped the country-wise list in Q2 (June quarter) and Q3 (September quarter). It was at No. 2 in the first quarter when Britons topped the list. Indians have been topping the list of top five homebuyers in Dubai. However, rising wealth and factors such as Russia's geopolitical isolation have rearranged the pecking order, the report highlighted. Over 3.86 million Indian expats are estimated to be living in the UAE, which is over 38 percent of the total population of the UAE (about 10 million) and the fourth highest number of overseas Indian people in the world, after the United States, Saudi Arabia and Nepal. Where is Singapore in comparison? The airport handled 58.9 million passenger movements in 2023, about 68 percent of Dubai airport. Indonesia topped the airport's passenger market in 2023, followed by Malaysia, Australia, Thailand and India. There are approximately 650,000 people of Indian origin in Singapore, as of 2023, comprising nearly 10 per cent of the country's six million population and thus making them the third-largest ancestry and ethnic group in Singapore. Singapore received 1.1 million tourists from India of the number of visitors in 2023 at 13.6 million. Dubai beats Singapore in every parameter for Indians from expats to real estate ownership to tourism. Dubai and UAE have outsized importance to Indians but Singapore is definitely up there as a second. One reason is the inability of Singapore to expand as it's got sea all around whole Dubai has endless deserts ! And the extra taxation for foreign property buyers. The Singapore government first implemented Additional Buyerโs Stamp Duty (ABSD) for foreign buyers is 30% in December 2021. Malaysia, Indonesia, China and India are consistently in the top five list. India moved ahead from No. 5 position in 2002 at 4.2 percent of all foreign buyers to number 3 in 2022 at 10.7 percent.
Most passengers at Dubai airport are Indians. Any guesses on how many?

I think I'm the only smoking something strange as rest of my industry is pretty elated at something that never happened for us. ๐๐๐. What frustrates me is the consistent duplicity of our industry associations. I was asked recently by a senior industry travel writer on why we don't make any progress, and this is the reason. Convictions are weak. I am very very proud of where India stands today in the world. Our stature is truly much higher than the past. It just doesn't resonate for tourism. Who is responsible? Passionate Tourism Professional I Ardent learner I Associate Vice President - UP & MP at Creative Travel - India and beyond
As the G20 Summit successfully concluded with 100 per cent consensus on New Delhi Declaration, most of the international media, Washington Post, Gulf News, ABC News, Australia, Ajjajeera, Morning Post , China, The Telegraph, etc. have praised India and spoken of its rising clout as the voice of the Global South. The praise of sucess of G20 presidency will surely bring positive impacts in all fronts of growth & development, which will enhance reputation, position, image of India on international platform, and convert it in business prospects and opportunities in many fields including tourism if not now but for sure in long run... Our stakeholders must remain aggressive enough to encash the success of G20, presidency India. https://lnkd.in/dsFZmntT

2024 is shaping up to be an amazing year for Indian travelers! In the last 3 months, Indian airports saw a whopping 97 million passengers. A decade ago, that kind of number took an entire year! Domestic travel is booming too, up 21% from 2019 levels. And international travel is up by 4%. Japan has become a favorite destination for Indian travelers in recent years, followed closely by the US, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian countries. This travel surge is a clear sign of India's strong economic growth and rising disposable incomes. More and more Indians are eager to see the world beyond their borders. With visa exemptions and more international flights, 2024 is looking bright for both domestic and international tourism in India. Exciting times ahead! #IndiaTravel #GlobalTourism #Travel2024

The strength of the Indian Passport has dropped! As per the Henley Passport Index 2024 for Q2, the rankings of the Indian Passport have slipped from 80 to 85. The number of visa-free destinations for Indians has also dropped from 67 to 62. Earlier this year, in January, the Indian passport maintained the same rank as the 2023 rankings and stayed strong at 80. However, in the new rankings, this ranking has slipped. In 2022, the Indian passport ranked at the 87th position with no visa needed for around 60 destinations. In 2023, India ranked 80 with visa-free travel to 52 destinations. #IndianPassport #Visa #Travel #passport #HenleyPassportIndex

In less than 30 days more than 3 countries have announced a free visa on arrival scheme for the Indian travellers & there are many more countries which take notice of this and offer the visa on arrival for the Indian travellers. earlier in the month it was Sri Lanka & Thailand and today Malaysia became the third country. according to me below are the reasons why the countries are Doing so. 1. The growing affluent middle class - The middle class in India are taking more international trips than even before making them the attractive markets. 2. Take over Air India by the Tatas - since the takeover of Air India, the airline is adding new routes and revamping their operations. 3. Indigo AIRLINES - Indigo airlines have placed record orders of new planes and they are adding new flights every month to the newer International flights. 4. reduction in the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand - until the Pandemic the Chinese were the highest number of tourists visiting Thailand, however after the pandemic the Indians have taken over and Thailand wants to further consolidate this growing demand. 5. Last but not the least the domestic destinations are becoming expensive with every passing day and hence the international holidays are value for money. write in the comments any other reasons why you think the countries are rolling out the red carpet for the Indian travellers by offering free Visa. also mention which countries would you love to see offering visa on arrivals for the Indian travellers. #travelagents #holidays #indianaviation

In the fiscal year 2023-24, domestic air travel in India showed a modest growth of 2% compared to pre-COVID levels. This growth revealed notable shifts in travel patterns: ๐ซTravel between State Capitals remained stable, but its share decreased from 61% to 57%. ๐ซJourneys to and from industrial, trading, and business hubs saw a 3% increase compared to pre-COVID levels, with their traffic share rising slightly from 15% to 16%. ๐ซTravel to and from tourist destinations increased by 5%, expanding their share from 23% to 27%. ๐ซRoutes to cultural tourism and trading centers experienced the highest traffic growth, with their collective share rising from 5% to 7%. ๐ซConversely, routes to business and corporate hubs saw the lowest traffic growth, maintaining their pre-COVID share at 6%. In summary, leisure travel has notably surged in post-COVID India. The growth of Indian trading towns in air travel can be attributed to the rise of startups. Additionally, traffic patterns are shifting away from gateway airports such as State Capitals, with direct connections becoming more prevalent. These changes are driven by factors like internet accessibility, rising aspirations, and increased economic mobility, making air travel more accessible and affordable for a broader range of Indians.
