I couldn't agree more with this important sentiment. Working when you're sick should never be seen as a symbol of commitment. It's actually a symptom of a sick culture where rest is disregarded and employees are expected to sacrifice themselves for their jobs. In toxic workplaces, taking time off to rest and recover is often seen as a sign of weakness. But in healthy cultures, rest is recognized as a source of strength. It is crucial to prioritize wellness in order to perform at our best and achieve success in our careers. Promoting a work environment that values the well-being of employees is not only the right thing to do, but it also leads to increased productivity and overall job satisfaction. Organizations need to take the necessary steps to create a supportive culture where employees are encouraged to take care of their physical and mental health. Let's strive for workplaces that prioritize employee well-being and understand that rest and self-care are essential for sustainable success. Remember, a healthy and happy workforce is key to achieving long-term goals.

Please stop demonizing the basics. If someone is coming to work sick, he is coming on his own freewill. Coming to office while being sick is a personal choice not an enforced one. And every scenario is different from the other. So we really need to stop promoting the content which covers only limited scope. This is what i see these days, people take one small situation and make a whole issue on that and blame the entire thing on the company itself, categorizing it as "Toxic". We really need to stop this trend of demonizing the basic work culture and ethics.

When we say "Toxic workplace" - what are we saying toxic exactly ?? We are not expected to sacrifice ourself for the job rather we are expected to focus on the desired business results with our effectiveness, with our efficiency and with our committment that the people in organization believed in you that you can do because of your potential. When you need rest, you take rest. You are not obligated to sacrifice yourself but at the same time when you don't take rest and are coming up, showing to your work you are expected to do and bring to the table at its optimum best to your ability. Our strength and cultures are healthy when we create it and when we understand each other. For wellness, health benefits are provided, its upto you to take that in use when you want. That's what I think as of now.

Indeed! But I want to highlight another important thing! Retaining annual leaves is also not a sign of good work culture. People must be encouraged to have days off! Planned or unplanned! Because, everyone don't have a same life! Some people genuinely love their workplaces and job. They feel more happy at work. But, they must also be asked to take days off! Because, they will be emerge as an example of commitment! Which is unjust become people don't have same life! There are so many factors associated with this! However, in production departments, sometimes it is really tough to handle shifts! And in that case many times we have to work even we are sick! So, it's not always a sign of toxic work culture! Depends upon a team. Good team! Good culture! Abdelaziz Almaazmi Sir, Great post!

What if your HR doesn't approve your sick leave due to lack of replacement, and you come to work suffering, infecting others (totally counter-productive), and generally feeling miserable? That is a sick management culture...

Excellent! Appreciate your comments. Except some others I experienced One Engineering Office Dubai is absolutely committed to well being of duty holders and they don't allow to work if anyone feeling sick, immediately they are directing to see Doctor and take rest.

‏Everyone's attention is generally on physical diseases, while the mental diseases of employees have a much greater and more destructive effect on the productivity of the individual and other colleagues.A depressed person in the workplace will hurt others more mentally than a person who is physically ill ‏The senior management of every organization should consider this important issue and adopt appropriate solutions

Abdelaziz Almaazmi Great post! Let's shatter the illusion: Sacrificing your health for work isn't a heroic act – it's a sign of a broken system. Our well-being should never take a backseat to a toxic work culture. It's time for change. #PrioritizeHealth #WorkLifeBalance #HealthyCulture

I agree... but, many people take advantage of this, and call in sick more than they actually come to work. They overuse the "mental health" card. It's frustrating for any manager trying to run a successful company and create a happy working environment. People see his kindness as a weakness, and ride him like a donkey. But, I agree. You should have to come to work when you are really sick, out of job security fears. 👏🏽

Absolutely aligned with this. Making an employee work while they're not feeling well is a significant red flag in a toxic culture that ignores the value of rest, pressuring employees to compromise their well-being for work. In many workplaces, a much-needed break to rejuvenate is often misconstrued as a display of non-seriousness. However, in thriving environments, a healthy work-life balance and downtime are encouraged to promote the overall well-being of employees. I couldn't agree more, well-being of employees should be more focused on. In addition to increasing their level of happiness at work, I am convinced that it leads to a higher productivity and a higher retention rate as well. Win-win situation like we said... 😊
