As we bid farewell to Vet Tech Week, let's take a moment to honor the extraordinary veterinary technicians who have consistently shown unwavering support and compassion for families, particularly during the most challenging moments when we bid adieu to our beloved pets. Throughout this week, vet techs have fulfilled a pivotal role in ensuring the comfort and upholding the dignity of our pets in their final moments. They've extended a reliable shoulder to lean on, comforting words, and tender gestures precisely when they were needed the most. To all the devoted vet tech professionals out there, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your empathy and the priceless solace you offer during these emotional times. Your contributions have a profound impact on the lives of both pets and their human companions. 🙏💖 #VetTechWeek #PetCareHeroes #FurryFriendsForever

It's DAY 2 of the American Veterinary Medical Association's National Pet Week® and today we're educating while celebrating "Behavioral health: Habits for happy pets". "Keep your pet happy and healthy by promoting positive interactions. Try creating an environment that encourages natural behaviors by introducing puzzles, games, and interactive toys, or learning new skills. Activities like target training are wonderful options for dogs and cats—and even other pets, like fish! You can also promote good behavior by helping your pets get comfortable in new situations by safely exposing them to a variety of interactions with other animals, people, places, and activities." Pet Appreciation Week raises awareness of proper pet care and pet-related health issues. You can buy them new toys and treats this week, but there are four things you can do that will have a larger effect on your pet's health and happiness. 1. EXTEND YOUR NOMRAL EXERCISE TIME. Show how much you appreciate your pet by extending your regular walk or playtime. The extra exercise will improve your health and theirs. 2. CONSIDER MICROCHIPPING YOUR PET. June is also National Microchipping Month. A microchip can significantly increase the chances that your pet will be returned to you if he or she should become lost. 3. UPDATE YOUR PET'S INFORMATION. If your pet has a microchip, check and make sure your information is current in the microchip database. Make sure your pets are registered, and that their tag information is current. 4. MAKE A VET APPOINTMENT FOR A REGULAR CHECKUP. Pay extra attention to your pet’s health this week. Make sure all vaccinations are up-to-date and have your veterinarian do a routine check to make sure your pet is healthy. #MinXray offers complete #DigitalRadiography systems and Wireless #Ultrasound designed specifically for #CompanionAnimal practices. Visits to the veterinarian have changed over the decades. Two vets explained that this is related to the increase in adoptions during the pandemic. Many chose to adopt dogs for company. Vet tech appointments became common for routine checks. This allows vets more time for emergencies and visits with their patients who need their eyes on our dogs. It's been a change for me, as I've been accustomed to standing appointments with my vet after 50+ years as a dog parent. Whether your dog has a vet tech appointment or a visit with the vet scheduled, you will be seen by a tech first. Come prepared with a detailed list of questions - you will be asked..."What's going on?" They document everything you describe. This saves time for everyone - including your dog. Here's an example of the importance of being your dog's advocate...Here's a typical vet visit for Arwen.⬇️ She is slow in deciding who she trusts when anyone approaches her. She has tracheal issues. Encouraging her to come out from under my feet by pulling on her leash is not in her best interest. Some techs are aware this may cause fear, and some are not. When this happens, this is what I say -- "Excuse me; she has tracheal issues, and she is slow to trust; I'll bring her to you." And it works. You can advocate for your dog in a kind and respectful way. The techs appreciate that. And the vets are well aware of these conversations. At the end of each vet visit, I always leave with a thank you to everyone. Arwen's yearly checkup is in March. I plan on bringing donuts for everybody. Having a well-established professional relationship with your vet includes his staff. They are the ones who meet dog parents at the door when they are in a panic. And believe me when I say I'm no different than any other dog parent when I think I'm looking at a crisis. May all your visits to your vet be for well-check visits. #lesleyosborn #lesleyosbornposts #dogsarefamily 🐾💞🏡 #caninehumanbonds #doglovers #storyteller #author ✒️📚 Follow #lesleyosborncanineconsulting
