Good news is great. Bad news is okay. But surprises are not okay. That's the model I use with my teams. There are a lot of moving pieces in business, and CEOs can be overly optimistic in board meetings, thinking everything's going to work. But it's the CFO's job to have conversations with CEOs and come up with an achievable plan to keep board members and other stakeholders attached to a clear vision. Bad news is okay. Surprises are not okay.
