Recruiters 👉🏽 give career changers a chance. This year layoffs worldwide continue to affect thousands of hard-working people. Many of them are using this time to: 1️⃣ Reflect 2️⃣ Explore new paths 3️⃣ Diversify their skills And they’re showing a willingness to adapt to change. Who says a therapist can’t make a great copywriter? Or that a former math teacher can’t become a rockstar email marketer? No one, I hope. So, as you're recruiting new hires, remember that the resume in front of you could be a multipassionate individual that could bring useful skills to your team. Invite them to interview. Despite dealing with Covid for the second time, I feel stronger than I did four days ago. Today, I engaged with a recruiter regarding a senior program management role that I applied to recently. I highlighted my skills and shared I have a strong commitment for making an impact. You all know that I went through full loops interview process for a couple of project manager roles and even completed assessments. Despite past disappointments, I will approach this opportunity cautiously, but optimistically. I was sterned with my questions, which involved: • # of openings for the available role? • Location/remote? (Confirmation) • Interview Process ? • Job Fulfillment Date? Upon receiving responses to my questions, which most was surprisingly good, except for the assessment part. It appears companies use assessments to gauge desperation or extract free labor. Nevertheless, given the competitive job market, it seems we have to concede to assessments and cover letters. Often times after a layoff people are so stressed and scared they don’t know what to ask for. Skill Enhancement: Encourage continuous learning and the development of new skills to stay competitive. Save yourself from the time wasters who take advantage of job seekers. Red(ish) flags to look out for while interviewing Opinions and experiences may vary* 🚩 Startups using Microsoft Suite for their email and everything lol 🚩 Different members of the hiring team use different meeting software (zoom, teams, google, etc.). If the hiring team can't even align on their tools, are they synced on their vision and goals? 🚩 Energy mismatch. If some members of the hiring team are over-the-moon enthusiastic about you, while others act like they'd rather be anywhere else, it could indicate some disconnect on their team. 🚩 You're given an assessment/project way too early in the hiring process 🚩 The project is more of a full plan and free ideas for the company rather an assessment of your skills 🚩 They mention that there's an internal referral also up for the role 🚩 They conduct an interview while they're at a conference, coffee shop, or any other noisy place with bad wifi 🚩 The hiring team doesn't look at your LinkedIn profile 🚩 Their questions are archaic and withholding Do you agree or disagree with any of my reddish flags? I'm pretty direct, especially on LinkedIn and i'm often asked if I'm worried how it impacts my ability to land a job. I used to be, but I know I know It has. I have lost out on roles because of it. I've also gotten roles because of it. Regardless of what you post (or don't) your LinkedIn has impacted your ability to find work too. No matter what you say or do, someone else will have an opinion on it, there will be people who agree with you and people who don't. So be yourself. Last year I did a poll asking if my content impacts people's opinion of people working with me or not. 60% said they would want work with me more, 20% said it didn't impact their opinion. 20% said they wanted to work with me less The irony is, that of those 60%, most were other developers, tech leads, engineering managers. The 20%? those were mostly recruiters. Personally, I would rather work with people who like me for who I am, than pretend i'm someone I'm not. #developerlife #recruitment #contentcreators

Why? Because it allows you to get an idea of the status of your application and an idea of the hiring process and the hiring team. Here is my recent experience ❌ 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 #𝟏: I contacted a recruiter and two hiring executives about Delivery Manager position. The recruiter viewed my profile but didn't respond to my Inmail. One of the hiring executives also checked my profile but didn't reach out. The other executive replied with a standard "Apply and the recruiter will contact you." However, I decided to email the other executive who had visited my profile, and they disclosed they were already in the interview process. I ask, when to get an idea of when I applied and when they started. However, they hit me with the “I don’t know.” This experience reflects a lack of transparency in the hiring process. A disinterested recruiter, and coupled with hiring managers unable to coordinate their responses. ✅ 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 #𝟐: I reached out to three people about a Program Specialist Community role, two responded. One directed me to the hiring manager, while the other, who was on leave, promised to follow up. I reached out to the hiring manager, their response was generic. However, I was excited that I found satisfaction in establishing contact and she had my resume in front her. I also looped back to the person who referred me to the hiring manager, seeking the recruiter's contact. Though awaiting a response, I successfully tapped into my network to gather further insights on finding the recruiter.
