Jane Elliott's brown eye blue eye test, calling it impactful and thought-provoking. She highlights how the test's classroom simulation effectively demonstrates the harmful effects of discrimination. Discrimination trauma is the psychological distress stemming from unfair treatment based on personal characteristics. It induces emotions like shame, fear, and anger and diminishes self-esteem. This trauma affects relationships, work, and overall well-being while perpetuating systemic inequalities. Combating discrimination trauma entails creating supportive spaces, utilizing therapy and support groups, and implementing policy changes to reduce discrimination. Challenging discrimination at societal and individual levels is vital for prevention and healing. https://lnkd.in/g_qWG6h5

LMFT, EMDR Certified Therapist, Consultant in Training, in Consultation with Cecelia Penalillo and Elaine Gaston
I’m drawing courage from Ijeoma Oluo’s words, “Act and talk and learn and f-up and learn some more and act again and do better.” And, reflecting on my dear friend, Tiger Moon‘s reference to “white therapy,“ challenging me to actually think about white therapy, where it never occurred to me before: A question to my white colleagues with respect and love: How are we as white therapists contributing to the white supremacist system in our therapy sessions? How can we do better, how can we notice where infusing anti-racism could actually be contributing to our clients’ healing?
