Don’t get locked into thinking that generative AI is strictly about economic gain. Its potential extends far beyond business—especially in addressing the most pressing social issues of our time. Gen AI is showing immense promise for supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as environmental protection, increasing sustainability, reducing racial and gender inequality, improving health and wellbeing, and much more. Just five years ago, our researchers found that AI could support 170 use cases that benefit our society. And thanks to recent breakthroughs in gen AI, that number now stands at 600 use cases. And that's a problem. According to the WEF, "The gender gap in AI is caused by the exclusion of women at every stage of the AI life cycle, risking a vastly inequitable economic and technological system in an age where digitalization is fast advancing." How can a technology be equitable and balanced if it isn't built by a balanced and diverse group? Crucial discussion! Ensuring AI systems are objective and unbiased is fundamental to ethical tech development. It's about embedding fairness from the ground up, by diversifying our teams and the data we use, and continuously evaluating our algorithms for bias. Ajitpal and I are committed to these principles, but it's a journey that requires collective effort and shared insights. I'm eager to dive deeper into this conversation and explore how we can together foster more equitable AI technologies. Feel free to DM me to continue this important dialogue or share your experiences and strategies for combating bias in AI. Let's make fairness a standard, not an afterthought in AI. #AIEthics #BiasInAI #FairTech #BCCG

Canada's AI landscape is on the brink of transformation, which is why we need to consider the impact of gender bias. Jérôme Nycz, Executive Vice President of BDC Capital (Canada), and Laura McGee, our CEO, found a striking disparity: 90% of VC funding for AI in Canada goes to all-male founding teams. To address this imbalance, they outlined three pivotal steps so we can foster a more inclusive AI landscape that truly reflects the diversity of Canadian society. Now, as I move forward in this 'Rethinking AI' series, let's delve into the next thought-provoking chapter: 2/3 The Missing Female Perspective in AI. You can find the previous part (1/3 Beyond Automation) here:https://lnkd.in/etbp9GGS , and stay tuned for the final part coming soon. 2/3 -The Missing Female Perspective in AI It's a stark reality that the AI landscape has predominantly been shaped by male perspectives, and there's not a single woman among the AI initiators and pioneers. This gender gap raises important questions about diversity in innovation. Could it be that the female instinct perceives AI differently? Perhaps it brings to light the notion that humans need not become idle, as men often prioritize AI as a means to enhance their capabilities, potentially overlooking the consequences. #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Technology #EthicalAI #GenderBias #Inclusion #DiversityInTech #FutureOfWork #TechEthics #AIImpact #SocietyAndTechnology #AIandGender #AIInnovation #DigitalTransformation #AIResponsibility

Are we perpetuating gender bias through AI? As AI is becoming more and more pervasive in the workplace, are we sure we're including women as well? The risk of expanding the gender gap is high, so it's time to investigate and drive AI through a more inclusive space. Senior Digital User Experience Leader Focused in Delivering Solutions to Drive Measurable Business Results through Impactful Leadership
Imagine this: you identify as a female and ask an AI to portray you as a scientist, and it gives you back an image - of a man. It happened to me, and it affected me deeply. Even if you're not surprised by deeply ingrained gender bias, you're shaken by it when it affects your own AI creations. How can we teach our AI tools to recognize and overcome these biases? A captivating podcast on gender bias in AI led me to a sobering realization - AI is only as impartial as the data it consumes. And the data it consumes? This is a chaotic, biased mess. AI learns from this data, from this world we live in—a world where young girls are subtly taught that science isn't their playground and that they're not cut out for it. And it is reflected in our AI. What if we changed that? What if we helped our AI observe bias, digest it, and avoid it? Imagine an AI that is as aware of bias as we are. A gender-equal AI that could serve as an example for future generations. We can identify biases, and so can AI. How can we enable AI to recognize these biases and free itself from them? What are your thoughts? #GenderBias #AI #Equality #Science #Diversity #Inclusion https://lnkd.in/gZj-WUWh
