In our new #BrenntagPioneers series, we spotlight the people behind the successful transformation of Brenntag and we are starting off with Svenja Daniel. 10 years ago, when Svenja joined Brenntag as an intern, she would not have imagined to where she is today. With her recent promotion to SVP Supplier & Customer Excellence, she sees delivering excellence to all our Brenntag Specialties customers and suppliers as an integral part of her job: “We are actively listening to the needs and requirements of our customers and supply partners which enables us to deliver a tailored specialties approach. This is only possible if we work collaboratively together in teams”, comments Svenja. That thriving for excellence pays off, Svenja and her team has experienced just recently: “We at Brenntag managed to improve our customer NPS by over 30% in 3 years!” Our corporate values are a guiding principle in Svenja’s work: “I find our company’s core values very important and incorporate them into my work by trusting my team and colleagues, communicating openly, caring for my team's well-being, and prioritizing safety for all. Throughout my ten years with the company, Brenntag changed constantly. Change, in my view, is something very positive. Reflecting on our 150 years history, I'm impressed by Brenntag’s willingness to change. It highlights our ability to adapt, innovate, and lead our industry, showcasing the incredible colleagues who shaped Brenntag into what it is today.” To learn more about Brenntag’s purpose and values, visit https://spkl.io/604840Rcs #Brenntag150 #Transformation #Excellence

When we think about supply chain due, we tend to only think about tangible products and commodities. Metals, fashion, agricultural goods, technology etc. 🤷 But what about industries such as hotels and hospitality, services and finance, and labour/manpower? 🤷 The European #HumanRights due diligence regulations require companies to conduct due diligence on all of their supply chains, both products or services. This is quite a shift for many companies and requires a lot of preparation to ensure the rights processes are in place to identify and manage human rights risks. As such, Kumi Consulting Ltd has been working with companies to think about how they can conduct human rights due diligence on non-product industries. ➡️ Check out this case study below where I worked with my colleagues alongside a global consulting company to ensure that they had a robust approach to responsible sourcing: https://lnkd.in/eehgz4CC #CSDDD #CS3D #LkSG #ResponsibleBusiness

Expanding our vision of supply chain due diligence is essential. The European #HumanRights due diligence regulations call for a holistic approach, encompassing products and services alike. This demands a transformative shift in how companies navigate human rights risks, which can be challenging. If these challenges resonate with you, don't hesitate to reach out. Discover how we collaborated with a global consulting firm to establish a robust approach to responsible sourcing in this insightful case study: https://lnkd.in/eehgz4CC #SupplyChain #HumanRights #DueDiligence #CSDDD #LkSG #ResponsibleSourcing

I'm looking back at a great Change Chemistry (formerly Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3)) European Forum last week. It’s clear that many things will change in the chemical industry over the coming years (the value of today is largely not the value of tomorrow) and it was a privilege to interact with the leaders in this transition. My take aways: 1) We need to bring together value chain partners and collaborate (e.g. we need new raw materials to manufacture more sustainable paints and coatings). 2) In companies, diverse teams with different perspectives are crucial for change (regulatory, R&D, Public Affairs, sustainability, etc.). 3) Advocacy can help to us to get unstuck: stimulate sustainable chemistry and market adoption of product innovations (my vision is that we must focus on future proof regulation). Also, advocacy should ensure that the European chemical industry remains competitive and can deliver. Thank you team Dow for hosting and showing us how you bring together your value chain partners. Thank you Dr. Asli Tamer Vestlund (in the picture), Joel Tickner and team for making the European Forum happen and leading the way. Looking forward to what's next with AkzoNobel and this group!

Fellow business and human rights consultants. Here we have a case study in tensions between business and human rights experts and their management playing out in real time, regarding the gravely serious issue of forced labour and genocide in Xinjiang, and specifically in Volkswagen's supply chain. We shouldn't feel smug about this. Someone may challenge me, or you, one day, publicly, on an ethical decision we've taken. This is a good chance for us all to look at ourselves steadily in the mirror. As a business and human rights expert, whether you're in-house, a consultant, or working for an NGO, you'd be dishonest if you said you had never come up against a thorny moral issue. In fact you wouldn't be doing your job if you didn't have to grapple with uncomfortable responsibility of identifying the lesser evil. We should be humbled by this. I'm impressed by the courage of the staff at Loning for challenging their employer publicly. There have been many times I wish I had been braver throughout my own career. #humanrights #humanrightsduediligence #eucsdd #modernslaveryact #forcedlabour #sustainableprocurement #betterbuying #responsiblesourcing #businessandhumanrights #bizhumanrights #supplychains

Inevitably over the past few days I've found myself thinking about the article https://lnkd.in/d4CHRB26 and the post from the Loening team below. In view of which, let me say these are my views and I have yet to discuss them with my team at twentyfifty ltd. Can I first say bravo to Markus Löning for attempting to find a way to conduct #hrdd in this particular part of the world. There are a number of features of the approach he has taken which I think are interesting and merit further discussion. Second, this is an extreme case but increasingly not the only place where there are very challenging restrictions to conducting #hrdd. It is simplistic to simply say that companies must leave, there can be many complications to doing that quickly at least and a growing expectation to leave responsibly - so I think the efforts to explore the boundaries of what can be done are necessary. My challenge to the campaigners is to engage in a dialogue with those companies and consultants involved. And finally, while I'm not clear what is behind the post below, I know very well the challenge of leading a diverse, international and strong willed team in the sphere where we encounter so many challenging situations working at the cusp of business and human rights. I have no doubt that in stepping out and taking on such a challenge there would have been much to consider as a team and as a leader.
