100-yen shop market in Japan is on the verge of reaching sales of over 1 trillion yen. It has now become one of the representative formats of Japanese retail stores. The 100-yen shop in Japan is said to have originated in Aichi Prefecture in 1985. However, in fact, even before the Pacific War, there were stores in Japan that had a flat price of 10 Sen. Moreover, it is said to be a copy of the American 10 cent store. It is a very likable fact that 100-yen shops, which are enjoyed and valued by foreigners including Americans visiting Japan, have their roots in America. #100yenshop #100yenjapan #flatprice100 #retailstorejapan #onedollarshop #lowpriceshopjapan

Inside China's Toyland: Chenghai, a factory town dedicated to toys I recently had the opportunity to explore the heart of global toy production, Chenghai, where over 30% of global toy production takes place. I witnessed firsthand the dedication and expertise here that bring toys to life. I want to thank Brendan (Eric) Chan, Lorenzo cai, and others who warmly welcomed me and showed me their factories! Chenghai, as part of the Chaoshan region, offers a unique culture where traditions, robust local networks and a spirit of entrepreneurship and collaboration fuel its industrial environment. I have witnessed how this makes factories highly effective in large-scale, high-quality toy production. One particular example I want to share is the remarkable machine in the video below that performs automatic assembly—proof of this industry's commitment to efficiency and operational standardisation. I want to share two valuable insights and tips from my experiences with toy suppliers in Chenghai. These tips can help you to get more control over your toy orders: 1. Emphasis on quality control: Some suppliers do not invest enough effort in quality control or fail to hold their own suppliers to high standards. Taking control of your quality is therefore essential to protect your brand reputation. 2. Know who your Partners: In the toy market, there are numerous small traders and middlemen who often present themselves as manufacturers but add little value and lack transparency. It is advisable to avoid working with these companies and seek transparent and honest partners. For more comprehensive tips and insights, I invite you to check out our latest blog post (link in the comments). #ToyIndustry #Chenghai #ChinaManufacturing #SourcingOpportunities #ChinaSourcing #ToyManufacturing

The department store model in Japan is not "out of step" with the times. Some department stores are, having taken their fingers off the pulse of the modern Japanese consumer. Isetan is thriving, as is Hankyu in Umeda, while Seibu is hit or miss. That said, putting a Yodobashi Camera in 50% of the Ikebukuro and Shibuya Seibu stores is hardly a way to get their mojo back; the electronics stores are more deserted than the lackluster department stores. Department stores need to face the digital realities of modern shopping and find ways to innovate and bring in new, on-trend brands and merchandise. Many of these trendy new brands are coming from foreign firms, and with the cheap yen now is an ideal time for a foreign brand, even smaller ones, to target the Japanese market. Times have changed.

Many people must have seen a row of small vending machines in Japan around train stations or shopping areas, which are capsule toy machines, loved by kids and adults. They are also called gacha gacha, because of the gacha sounds that they make when users turn the handle to make a capsule fall out. Capsule toys cost between 100 to 500 yen each, and sales of capsules have increased by 1.5 times in the last ten years to 40 billion yen (2021), with more than 700,000 machines currently in Japan. The market size is predicted to exceed 100 billion yen by 2030. The following are examples of individual business revenue forecasts. Location: In a commercial facility Area: Approximately 100 ㎡ Annual sales: 60 million yen Operating profit: 12 million yen (approximately 20%) Staff: 1 to 2 people Since it is opened under a franchise chain, no special know-how is required. #capsuletoyjapan #gachagacha #smallbusinessjapan #gachajapan #capsulemachines #capsuletoysbusiness

コンビニ many convenience stores everywhere in Japan. Currently, there are more than 56,000 convenience stores in Japan. It is said that the first convenience store in Japan was born in 1964. Seven-Eleven's first store in Japan opened in Toyosu, Tokyo in 1974. The three major convenience store chains in Japan are Seven-Eleven, Family Mart, and Lawson. As the largest chain of stores, Seven-Eleven has more than 20,000 stores as of January 2023. There was a tendency to decline for a time due to the corona pandemic, but since then, the number of stores has gradually increased, and profits are also recovering. The problem is that the convenience store business itself is somewhat saturated in Japan, and there is a labor shortage. They are trying to make up for the lack of staff by introducing self-checkout systems, but this is not yet a solution. As a franchise business, it is not a bad business, but it will continue to suffer from a constant labor shortage in the future. #conveniencestorejapan #storechainsjapan #sevenelevenjapan #familymartjapan #lawsonjapan #franchisebusinessjapan #shopjapan #retailbusinessjapan

Most people might not know as their product mostly gets unnoticed. 💡Would you not be surprised to know this company has about 50% of the world’s market share in a particular product? 💡YKK makes about 90% of the product in more than 206 facilities in 52 countries. 💡YKK is a 90 year old Japanese company and the product is zippers which we use in clothes, bags, pouches etc. The company manufactures over 10 billion zippers every year. 💡Honestly, when I got to know about this company, I immediately looked at my trousers and was amazed to see its zipper is from YKK. 💡There is also a message from this information. For a business it’s enough if your customer knows you and the world need not. 💡Bonus message: This is true for life too. It’s enough if people who matter to you understand you and what others think of you doesn’t really matter!
