Software-Defined Warfare: Code Writing From the Trenches June 06, 2024, Signal | AFCEA https://lnkd.in/ea32APsz One speaker described Ukrainians as the first combatants of the software-defined era. “Your soldiers in the field are the ones that know the pain points, they know what needs to be fixed, let them fix it, let them do it themselves,” said Enrique Oti, chief technology officer, Second Front Systems. Warfighters are writing code in the front and solving their immediate problems, from calculating indirect fire to connecting applications, according to Oti.

Folks, IT'S NUTS OUT THERE! Security threats in #cyberspace abound, & at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) we work hard to make sure they do not negagtively impact our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen & Guardians, or their mission to protect & defend the United States. Check out DISA's answer to the warfighter's need for #zerotrust security architecture, called Thunderdome. (This isn't #MadMax but I promise the video is just as awesome!)

"There are technology pieces that the team is working on... And oh, by the way, we've tried this before. The CENTCOM partner network... 33 nations or so we're trying to get to a single pane of glass ability to synchronize, communicate, coordinate, organize and operate. Right now I have 16 separate networks to do that, and I can't get two of my buddies on the same piece of glass. So it's a huge challenge." Secure, quantum safe, real-time, agile, multi-domain communications and data sharing capabilities with joint and partner forces, to the tactical edge at tactically relevant speed and scale, begin with trusted and resilent connections over existing transmission infrastructures - zero trust based SelectiveTRUST from KnectIQ. A “single pane of glass” and common operating picture for all participants is a requirement for today’s multi-dimensional battle space. Admiral Aquilino is correct. As tech enablement evolves so does warfare. Great article around the future of conflict - especially around standards and controlling collateral damage. Great topic and one fully expect to be a reoccurring theme.

This is important, not only code, but SIGINT and cognitive radio. However, do not forget this is all bypassed through the use of "the vacuum" with new physics weapons that should never be used in war, inclusive of strong/weak force tech.

Are Ukrainians the first combatants of the software-defined era? So think several European experts at AFCEA International's #TechNetInternational in Brussels. Code-writing is now a soldier's skill, no longer reserved for engineers. How should training arm future soldiers with this skill that is changing battlefields from the bottom up? Heated discussion at #AFCEATNI this week. You can follow it in my latest piece: https://lnkd.in/eg_MD-YS
