Meet Cupertino (Cup), a true Smoke Daddy icon. Fondly referred to as someone who "came with the building," Cup has been an integral part of the Smoke Daddy team for over 25 years. Beginning his journey in 1997 as a dishwasher, Cupertino's hard work and invaluable contributions to the kitchen caught the attention of the management team. Quickly transitioning from dish duty to the kitchen line, Cup has consistently moved up the ranks. His positivity and unwavering work ethic make him a cherished presence, earning appreciation from both guests and staff alike. Now, as we go into celebrating our 30th year at Smoke Daddy in Wicker Park, Cupertino is a valued Pit Master and we are incredibly proud to have him on our team!
We asked Cup to answer a few questions about his time at 4 Star so far:
What do you enjoy the most about your job at 4 Star?
I like everything about my job... Everything I do, I do with pride and joy. I am also proud of where we have come as a company.
What 4 Star moment are you the proudest of?
I am very proud of how the company has grown since I started. When I joined in 1997, there were only 2 stores, Dunlay's on the Square and Dunlay's on Clark. Look at how much we have grown since then! I am happy to be a part of it all.
How long have you been with 4 Star and what roles have you held/ what has been the progression?
In 1997 I started as a dishwasher. Since then, I have been a Line Cook, Kitchen Manager and Pit Master, and many other things in between. Since I started at Smoke Daddy, I have found that I have been able to grow in the company because of my dedication to a positive attitude and readiness for feedback. We are all on the same team and I am happy to keep growing for my team.
