Human Genetic Variation Study https://lnkd.in/gbKAV9gJ A Stanford University team is conducting a study to learn about the role of genetic variation between human sperm and somatic (body) cells where the basis is currently unknown. A more complete understanding of genetic variation may drive the development of better diagnostic, prognostic, or therapeutic options for patients with fertility issues. Head of Genomics R&D, NGS Assays - Cancer liquid biopsy | Epigenetics | Aging | Canine | Muscle Satellite cells
This is by far one of the most fascinating topics in epigenetics: can environmental challenges influence heritable epigenetic changes in the germline that impact future generations susceptibility to disease? Many experiments indicate yes. One enormous value of twin studies is to explore what changes can happen to the genome according to shared environment versus what might be heritable. As is well understood, most of the methylation marks are “erased” during embryogenesis. However, some “escapee” methylation exists. Mouse models and other animal models may help to decipher these mechanisms along with twin studies. The primary question is how are germline changes made. It is thought that it must be mediated through blood-systemic factors. Seeing the impact of aged vs young serum on biological age “calculators”, this hypothesis seems tenable, but requires more exploration! https://lnkd.in/gMtSeui8

Epigenetics: Unmasking the Secret Keeper of Genetic Legacy and Holistic Healing "Epigenetics, a term that might seem complex at first glance, stands at the forefront of modern genetics, unraveling the layers of how our genes express themselves without altering the foundational DNA sequence. This field of study reveals that not only can these epigenetic changes be inherited as cells divide, but they can also be acquired or lost throughout an organism's life, highlighting the fluidity and adaptability of our genetic makeup. Amidst growing concerns about aging, disease, and overall health, understanding epigenetics offers a promising pathway to deciphering the intricate dance between our genes and environmental influences." 🧠 June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month! This month, we explore new research in Alzheimer's disease genetics. 📰 You may have seen news of a recent study published in Nature Medicine that has added to, and challenged, our understanding the genetics of Alzheimer's Disease. However, we recommend using caution in concluding that Alzheimer's Disease is caused by one's genetic status (APOE alleles). GSF genetic counselors Chase Beeler, Rachel Westman, and Devin Shuman write about this study, its limitations, and current recommendations in our new article titled "Causation versus Susceptibility: Alzheimer's Disease, Genetics, & APOE." 👉 Read this article now by visiting https://lnkd.in/d6w4Dq3p! #AlzheimersDisease #APOE
