The anatomy of a killer cover letter

- How do you make sure someone is going to read your cover letter? Part of this answer has to do with distribution. As in getting it directly to the hands of a decision maker. But great content is also critical and your most important step? It's the first one, nail the lead. If my college journalism professors taught me nothing else, they taught me the importance of drawing people in with a strong hook. You bore them in that first sentence, and there's a reasonable chance they bail out. I follow this exact same principle with every cover letter I create on behalf of my clients. My goal, which should also be yours, is to grab them at hello. Captivate them and at the same time, stay on point for that job that you're applying for.
