Editing your song structure

- After you've taken a good look at your melody and your lyric, it's time to also make sure that the overall structure of your song is working, because that's another big part of having a song flow naturally from beginning to end. (laughs) One of the first things that I always like to mention, especially to writers who are just getting started, is to make sure that your introduction to the song isn't too long. Remember that your listeners' attention span is going to be much shorter than yours is as the writer of the song. You don't really have the luxury of taking a long time to kind of set the mood for your song. So you're gonna wanna kind of get that intro in, set the tone and get started on your verse. My general rule is when in doubt, cut your intro in half. And I have a great story to that effect.
