- [Instructor] Most of the time when we browse the web, the data sent between our computer and the web servers we're visiting is protected for us automatically in the background. Protection of web traffic is important, because so much personal information is transferred through web browsers. Activities including online banking, web mail, ordering products, using social media, and all kinds of other functions that we perform every day. Without protection, the information sent during these activities could be observed by anyone at any point along the connection between your device and the server. So, there's protection built into all modern browsers. This protection is called TLS or transport layer security, and HTTPS or hypertext transfer protocol secure.
