Dealing with conflict and resourcing issues
- Even if you've done an excellent job securing your resources, it's rarely plain sailing for the project. There will be conflicts and issues that affect the resources and their availability. And as a project manager, it's your job to resolve those situations. One possible situation is that resources may be pulled from the project by business as usual or higher priority projects. To deal with this effectively, you need to first understand the reasons. If business as usual pulls the resources, establish why it's happened and then discuss it with the manager. If there's a compromise that can be reached by substituting resources with others, you may be able to minimize the impact on the project. If a higher priority project is in trouble and needs extra resources, it may only be short-term and cause minimal delays.
