- Did you know that it takes just seven seconds to make a first impression? Because first impressions are made based on feelings and emotions, not facts. Setting the tone during the approach is an important step in the fundraising process, and can determine your future relationship with the donor. In call selling, the approach is the first in-person meeting you have with a prospect. During this meeting, you'll establish rapport, and ask questions to learn more about your prospect. First, you want to project the right image to properly represent yourself, and your nonprofit. This involves selecting the appropriate attire, and making sure your accessories do not distract the donor. Your goal is to get them to focus on the benefits of giving a substantial gift.
