- [Instructor] Let us now talk about dedicated broadband or dedicated internet access. In earlier videos, we covered the various public WAN connections, such as cable, ADSL, and satellite internet. These connections are available to the public wherein the bandwidth is shared with other local subscribers. Since it is shared, the speed of your connection may then vary. It may go up or down, depending on how busy the internet connection is. Think of a water pipe. Inside the water pipe is a consistently flowing amount of water. The water is like the bandwidth for the internet in our analogy. Now, say there are five subscribers in the area, including yourself. During the less busy periods, you might get a good amount of bandwidth that is sufficient for your needs. However, during the busy periods when everyone got their devices turned on, watching videos, downloading files, or conducting online meetings, then you may notice your internet speed slowing down.
