PSTN replacement based on specific business requirements

- [Instructor] If you use a Microsoft cloud-based phone system, calls between users are handled internally. However, if you would like to use smartphones or other devices, then you have a couple of different options. With a Calling Plan from Microsoft, you can make and receive calls directly through the Microsoft 365 Phone System. You have to purchase a Microsoft Calling Plan for Microsoft 365. Your other option is direct routing. So if you can connect your current on-premises PBX with Microsoft 365 Phone Systems, then you can use direct routing. It may be much easier in the long run to just use a Calling Plan for Microsoft but it could save a lot of money for larger organizations to go direct. When users call other Microsoft Teams users within an organization, the calls are free. But you must buy a calling plan if you want users to be able to call regular phones and you don't have a service provider to make voice calls. There are two different calling plans. There is the Domestic plan as well as Domestic and International. With the Domestic calling plan, licensed users can call out to numbers located in the country where they are assigned in Microsoft 365. With a Domestic and International calling plan, licensed users can call out to numbers located in the country where their Microsoft 365 is licensed of course but they can also call international numbers in supported countries and regions. As of right now, there are 196 countries and regions that you can dial into using an international number with this plan. Direct routing allows you to use any of the PSTN or Public Switch Telephone Number trunks with your Microsoft Phone System in the following scenarios. A Microsoft Calling Plan may not be available in the organization or the country or the region that you're in. An organization requires connection to third-party analog devices or call centers or the organization has an existing contract with a PSTN carrier and it cannot be changed or taken away until the time has elapsed. Every business has different requirements and Microsoft has offered multiple different solutions that should satisfy requirements for your organization.
