The mean

- Data without statistics is like the most beautiful beach in the world without a plane or car to get there. We'll visit the lens of statistics by learning some simple but important statistical measures, the mean, the median, the mode, the percentile, the range, the variance, and the standard deviation. Imagine you want to search for a holiday apartment on Airbnb. You'll probably limit your search by the number of stars. For example, you look only for apartments with ratings 4.5 and above. But how is that rating calculated? By calculating the average, adding the rating of all visitors to the apartment and dividing by how many visitors they are. This statistical measure is called arithmetic mean or unweighted arithmetic mean. So if the dataset consists of a set of values, X0, X1, until Xn-1, then the arithmetic mean is the sum of the data divided by the number of elements in the data set n. We can write it down as the…
