- [Instructor] For many people, the IT Service Desk is the first step on the career ladder for IT. It was for me. The IT Service Desk is a place for people to learn both technical and non-technical skills. Working within the IT Service Desk can give you good exposure to a lot of different people. You'll have people from all departments within the business contacting the Service Desk. There will be times when you will learn about their role within the company, allowing you to build up business knowledge. You'll also encounter people who are technology savvy and those that aren't, and that will stretch you to be a better communicator. You'll get exposure to many different technologies and aspects of how things work across the entire IT department.
