Principles of layout

- Understanding the principles of layout and composition is fundamental to becoming a proficient designer. By thoughtfully placing elements in relation to one another, you establish a hierarchy that guides the viewer through the design. And we have six fundamental principles we can consider when composing a layout. The first principle is balance. Design should be visually balanced, but that doesn't always mean symmetry. Asymmetry in using negative space and other design elements can also create balance, as you'll see later in this chapter. Alignment within a design visually connects elements and their proximity to one another creates associations. Items close together are perceived as related. While those spaced apart are seen as unrelated. Contrast adds visual interest and highlights key areas, making it a crucial element in guiding viewers through a design.
