- As we've discovered, this DEI journey can be challenging. And no matter what, you will make mistakes. We all do, it is inevitable. It is a natural byproduct of our continuous education. No one can know all the things about all the things, and as we learn, we stumble. How you address those mistakes is critical. Brene Brown has said, and I agree entirely, that "Clarity is kindness." If you have mistepped and you are fortunate enough to receive feedback that your words or actions or inactions were harmful, I urge you to interpret this feedback as kindness. In a space in which you are intentionally trying to do good, to know that you have faltered is critical information. In my company NWC, we often say, "All data is an opportunity," and receiving feedback that you have made a mistake is no different. It's an opportunity to learn, to correct, to adjust, and to do better next time. It is also an opportunity to model how…
