- The internet and the web have enabled the relatively seamless movement of data across networks without any geographic limitations. This has enabled remarkable innovation capabilities that are often at our fingertips, much of which has changed the world. In the early days of the web, convenience and simplicity meant that millions of people could participate as information consumers. Many could also become providers of information. The platform enabled by the internet provided a new online medium for a wide range of interactions. In time, enterprises began using the internet to interact with machines to conduct actions such as checking the status of a device or restarting it.
