Supporting employee resource groups (ERGs)

- A key practice for belonging is embracing our differences and the unique experiences that make us who we are. One important space where this is done day in and day out is employee resource groups, or ERGs. These can also be referred to as affinity groups or business resource groups. These are internal employee-led groups that foster belonging for employees from different social identities and their allies. ERGs serve this critical role in supporting the diverse communities in your organization. Just having this collective space where people have shared culture and experiences can create comfort zones for those who may be severely underrepresented in their organization. During a global event, a loss, or some other intimate matter, it is often the case that people need in-community spaces where they can share their feelings before they can identify the kind of support they need from allies in the organization.
