Silence self-doubt to embrace empathy

- When you look in the dictionary, the word insecure has two different meanings. One relates to a person who lacks confidence. The other means something is vulnerable or lacking in resources, like a military base with too few guards. Both of these definitions explain why insecure people find it hard to show empathy. First, if you lack confidence in your ability to understand or connect with others, you're less likely to try. And second, insecure people spend a lot of cognitive and emotional energy worrying about themselves. So they have less mental resources to share with others. Being insecure gets in the way of being empathic. But here's the thing: most people become more self-confident when they practice empathy. That's pretty cool, right?
