Why employee and business resource groups and affinity groups matter

- Earlier in my career, I joined a group of young black professionals who were supporting each other in their career goals. We had a black senior leader who introduced us to golf because he knew this was an important skill for young black professionals to have. He knew many of us had never played before but we probably need to at some point in our career. This group was a place where we felt safe, being vulnerable, asking questions, and sharing our workplace experiences. This was a psychologically safe space where there was no judgment and we could show up as our true authentic self without fear of retaliation or humiliation. Does this sound like a community you'd like to be a part of? Well, these communities exist and have definitely served as a safe haven for me as I was growing in my corporate career.
