Add something

Add something

- [Instructor] Another tool to evolve something, is to add something. The American founding fathers, plus hip hop! If you read Lin-Manuel Miranda's book "Hamilton: The Revolution," he acknowledges his source music. And frankly, if you know the originals, or when you hear them, it's a little more like hip hop plus the U.S. founding fathers, but their team made it work. You can add something to something. So where do you start? Start with the weakness. The founding fathers may be seen as old and stodgy. What's not? Hip hop. What's missing from the thing you are improving? For me, when we asked non-security engineers to threat model, a key thing that was missing was the fun. Security people treat threat modeling as a creative exercise, others don't. That led me down the path of creating Elevation of Privilege, a card game for threat modeling, which we'll talk about later in this chapter.
