From the course: Closing the Green Skills Gap to Power a Greener Economy and Drive Sustainability

Embracing green skills: Workers

- Human nature is always striving to improve and grow our world and ourselves. We innovate what we do and how we do it, always aiming to be better. That's why you're a member of LinkedIn. You can see the value it brings to your role and your career. So how can you get yourself ready for the green opportunities that lie ahead? Whether you're taking the first steps in your career or looking for a new challenge in your existing one, here are three actions you can take to help get you there. First up, get ready to reskill. Globally, members with green skills have been more resilient to economic downturns than the rest of the workforce. So increasing your green skills is a great place to start. You could consider self-directed learning, offline, or online. You could also enroll in a green, higher-education course. And in the workplace, you could brush up on green skills as part of your organization's learning curriculum. Why not ask your employer what green skills training may be offered, and even how you could volunteer to help make it happen? Secondly, nurture your network. Your network is something you cannot put a price on. That's because you've built it by nurturing relationships and showcasing your capabilities, but you need to keep it up. Our data shows that green-skilled workers tend to have stronger networks with two and sometimes three times more connections on average. This is the way you'll build new relationships, ignite new conversations, and find new opportunities. Lastly, stay on top of the latest green developments to be green-ready. Seek out green ambassadors and thought leaders to follow. This is a great way to track developments and understand where the green economy is heading. And, of course, you can use the job section on LinkedIn to search for green roles around the world that might interest you, finding that perfect match for those green skills that you've brushed up on. The time for action is now. The green economy is happening, and the planet needs our help today. Seize this opportunity to play your part in the green transition.
