Embracing green skills: Governments

- Part of my job that I really love is meeting with policymakers across the globe. And the first question I'm often asked is, what can LinkedIn's economic graph tell us about green skills and green jobs? As a policymaker, you have a unique opportunity to advocate for green skills. Whether you are working at local, regional, national, or international level, you can play a key role in preparing the workforce for the coming green transition. Green jobs will come about if we have enough green skills. That's why upskilling is key, be it in existing jobs or new roles. Firstly, you can connect green skills, jobs, and broader green economic policies. Look at existing talent pools and explore how you would prioritize green upskilling. Consider how this could be delivered in partnership with others such as educational institutions and workplaces. Secondly, why not examine your job creation programs and think how green skills could help bring them to fruition or accelerate them. Consider partnering with business incubators and identify the eco-entrepreneurs who are creating new green businesses and reinventing existing ones. They are creating green jobs that could regenerate your region. Think how you can support their efforts through targeted green grants or incentives. Finally, why not use green skilling to help meet diversity, belonging, and inclusion goals in your area? It can also fill gaps in existing talent pools and ensure there are less barriers to employment. We know the future is green. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity using content and technology to upskill workers anytime, any place regardless of who they are or where they are. Great ideas can come from anywhere, so can green jobs. And policymakers can create the right environment for both to flourish.
