CDP and LLDP

- [Instructor] In this video, we want to take a look at the Cisco Discovery Protocol, or CDP, and the link layer discovery protocol, or LLDP. They both have basically the same purpose in life. We want to be able to go to a device and see Layer-2-adjacent neighbors. For example, we have R1 onscreen, and we've got a couple of switches connected to R1. Well, we could go into R1 and say, "Show me my CDP neighbors." And if all of these devices are running Cisco Discovery Protocol, then I'll be able to see from R1 that I'm directly connected to switch 1 and to switch 2. And if I went to switch 1 and said, "Show me my CDP neighbors," I could see not just R1 and switch 2, I could also see a Cisco IP phone, because Cisco IP phones, they speak CDP. In fact, our Cisco Unified Communications Manager server, it speaks CDP. We could see that if it's plugged into switch 2 as an example. But if we had something like a laptop…
