- [Instructor] Machine learning is an algorithm or model that learns patterns in data and then predicts similar patterns in new data. For example, say we want to classify music into categories like hip hop, rock, and funk. Instead of setting up rules to determine how to categorize, the developers feed thousands of examples of each genre to the machine learning algorithm. The computer finds the patterns inherent in the music and uses those characteristics to identify future songs in each category. This predictive ability, in addition to the computer network's ability to process massive amounts of data, enables machine learning to handle complex business situations with efficiency and accuracy. Machine learning algorithms do not rely on rules defined by human experts. Instead they process batches of raw data, for example, social media content, images, voice, and text.
