Specifying formula calculations for summary tasks

- [Narrator] You can't change how Project calculates summary or group values for built-in fields. For instance, the work field totals the work for all the subtasks that belong to a summary task. If you want to calculate summary in group rows differently, you can do that with custom fields. Suppose you want to see the maximum cost variance for subtasks within each summary task. We're going to start by switching to the Cost table. The Cost Variance Field totals the variance for all the subtasks in the summary row, and you can't change how the Cost Variance Field is calculated. So what do we do? That's where custom fields come into play. Let's go ahead and insert the cost one custom field into the table. Then right click and choose Custom Fields. I'm going to rename the field C_Max CV so it'll be the maximum cost variance for the summary task. Now what we want to do is we want to set this custom field equal to the cost…
