Defining time-based material costs

- [Instructor] With most material resources, you assign a quantity to a task, like 100 linear feet of cable. But materials can have a time component. For example, a generator that consumes three gallons of gas per hour. Let's look at how you coax project into calculating material costs by the time they're used. So let's head to the resource sheet. Scroll down in the list and find the generator resource. So the generator uses gallons of gas. We're going to go to the material cell and type in the unit, which is gallon. Then suppose that gas is $4 per gallon. So in the standard rate field, we're going to put $4. The trick is that you set the time-based consumption rate when you assign the material to a task. So we're going to go to the Gantt chart, scroll down in the task list and find task 36, Build out control center space. We're going to assign the generator to this task.
