About Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) is a private nonprofit organization established in 2012 with a mission to enhance community livability and promote sustainability through public engagement, education, and park preservation. Our programs aim to improve community health and appreciation for local parks while increasing access to free educational opportunities for low-income individuals. The Student Stewards Program, one of our initiatives, utilizes public parks as learning spaces, fostering hands-on community science experiences for students to enhance academic engagement and educational success.

Position Overview

As the Youth Recreation Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA member, you will play a crucial role in developing health and wellness components for TMPF's Student Stewards Program. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with the program team to enhance existing initiatives, building relationships with schools, designing curriculum, training volunteers, and expanding health-related activities across all TMPF programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop health and wellness education components for the Student Stewards Program
  • Collaborate with the program team to enhance current initiatives
  • Maintain relationships with school administrators and teachers
  • Assist in creating health and wellness curriculum for school break camps
  • Train volunteers for the Student Stewards Program
  • Expand the Junior Naturalists program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, science, or a health-related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with students, teachers, and volunteers
  • Passion for TMPF's mission and vision
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Initiative, service-oriented mindset, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Spanish (preferred)
