Description
The Youth Director, along with the coalition, will help youth to make healthy choices, especially related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, by empowering parents and families, determining coalition priorities, implementing best practices for targeting coalition priorities, and by strengthening coalition infrastructure and capacity. The youth director is a par-time 20 hour a week position.
Illustrative Examples Of Position Duties
The Youth Director must have excellent communication skills, be able to use technology to complete record-keeping tasks, and work independently and as part of a team. This person must have the ability to problem solve and deal with ambiguity. Use excellent organization skills to multi-task. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information. Be aware of and preferably involved in Monroe County community resources.

Illustrative Examples Of Position Duties
- Support youth led projects to help students succeed with their established goals
- Establish and maintain partnerships connecting youth with community resources needed to accomplish their goals and objectives
- Work with the Executive Director to ensure that grant requirements are met
- Recruit adult volunteers to assist with targeted youth with after school programming
- Coordinate training and retreat opportunities for targeted at risk youth
- Develop mechanism to gather student outcomes for grant reporting purposes
- Identify opportunities to expand partnerships through other community partners to identify and engage with at risk youth
- Provide guidance to students in youth programs
- Provide community presentations on substance use/misuse
- Provide supplemental classroom drug education materials and presentations for Monroe County middle and high school teachers annually
- Actively participate in the drug coalition in the primary prevention subcommittee or as needed elsewhere
- Represent the drug coalition at other youth events where the coalition has involvement
- Works on policy-related issues that impact youth substance use rates
- Provide guidance and support to HSS staff on Youth and Teen Mental Health First Aid
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

- Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, social work, psychology, child and family studies or related field is not required, but preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with youth and/or after school programming
- Non-profit experience preferred
- Must enjoy working with youth and be passionate about youth substance use prevention
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (some evenings/weekends expected)
- Must have strong presentation, written and verbal communications skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office software
- Able to work both independently and as a team and have the ability to collaborate with diverse community stakeholders
