Youth Development Director

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Youth Development Director provides hands-on leadership for the operations and development of Afterschool Childcare Programs, Summer Day Camp Programs, Holiday Camps, Preschool and Child Watch Services.

Essential Functions

  • Manages, directs, and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCAobjectives. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands programs withinthe community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs cause-driven staff and volunteers that are dedicated tobuilding achievement and belonging in youth and building relationships among youth and within families.Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, monitors and controls budgets related to the position to meet fiscal objectives. Ensures that allassigned programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADAaccommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety proceduresfollowed. Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events. Provides for upkeep of assigned programfacilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parentgroups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parentand community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships withcommunity organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with assigned Board Committee(s) and Association Quality Team(s).
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Assists in researching and writing grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1.Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred as a coordinator or supervisor of youth programs, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Completion of YMCA Day Camp Director certification and assigned youth development courses
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments ofthe community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Consistently self-driven and goal oriented. Possess the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
    • Prior to employment, completion of all Child Abuse Prevention training.
    • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor
    • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
    • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Within 30-days for employment, completion of all trainings in Redwoods, CPR, First Aid, AED, BBP, and Oxygen Administration.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
