About the Lab:

Matthew Biel, a national leader in child and family mental health, and Jason Lehmbeck, an investor, advisor, and entrepreneur in the care economy, are building an Innovation Lab at the Georgetown University Center for Child and Family Development to help catalyze and scale new solutions to address the many unmet needs in child and family mental health.

The Lab will launch later this year. Before launch, we are looking to hire a writer/editor to help us shine a spotlight on all the innovation that’s happening in this space.


Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Writer and Newsletter Editor to join our team and play a key role in developing and delivering a compelling weekly newsletter. This role involves creating engaging content that aligns with the Lab’s goals and attracts our target audience, which includes innovators across the child and family mental health landscape. You will work closely with the Lab leaders to refine ideas and translate the Lab’s big picture aims into content that serves as a catalyst for the community to make a big impact for kids and families.


This is a part-time contract role.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Lab leaders to develop the target audience, tone of voice, messaging, and content strategy.
  • Design an efficient and effective weekly newsletter format.
  • Produce and curate high-quality content for the weekly newsletter.
  • Write content in a specific, identifiable tone that resonates with the Lab’s audience.
  • Conduct research on topics such as maternal mental health, VR, and AI in therapy, with support from Lab experts.
  • Translate expert knowledge and materials into compelling content.
  • Fact-check and edit content, implementing feedback from key community stakeholders.
  • Engage with the audience through insightful and thought-provoking writing.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Writing and Editing Skills: Proven experience in writing and editing, particularly in creating engaging newsletters. Ability to write in a specific, identifiable tone.
  • Research Skills: Ability to conduct thorough research and synthesize information from complex sources. Curiosity and the ability to dive deep into new topics.
  • Content Strategy and Production: Experience in developing content strategy and maintaining an effective weekly newsletter format. Consistency and reliability in producing high-quality content.
  • Audience Engagement: Understanding of the target audience, including innovators, clinicians, funders, and entrepreneurs in the mental health ecosystem. Ability to create content that engages a smart, mission-driven audience.
  • Collaboration and Feedback: Ability to collaborate with Lab leaders and other experts. Openness to feedback and ability to implement it effectively.
  • Self-direction and Initiative: Ability to work independently and be self-directed. Experience in starting and growing a newsletter or similar publication from scratch. Strong organizational skills and a systematic approach to content production.
  • Background in Mental Health or Related Fields: Knowledge or interest in child and family mental health is preferred but not mandatory.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in writing and editing for newsletters or similar publications.
  • Experience in developing content strategies.
  • Ability to write in a specific, engaging tone.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Strong research skills.
