Wood Management Pre Assessor- Sierra - Remote | WFH

Title: Pre-Assessment Arborist

Salary: $40,000 - $51,000 annually

The Role

As a Pre-Assessment Arborist, you will play a crucial role in our Wood Management program. Your responsibilities will be diverse, allowing you to showcase your expertise and adaptability.

Utility Vegetation Management

You will serve as a skilled liaison between utility vegetation inspectors and tree crew personnel, bridging the knowledge gap between programs.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making adjustments as needed due to weather or personnel changes.
  • Delegate individual responsibilities to team members.
  • Provide management oversight and accountability for Foremen.
  • Maintain accurate project area maps, noting project status, crew locations, and estimated completion dates.

Team Coordination

  • Coordinate the activities of assigned tree Vegetation Management Inspectors (VMI) with the wood management crew(s).
  • Conduct meetings and tailboard sessions.
  • Act as a liaison between wood management crews, customers, contractors, clients, Project Manager, and Operations Manager.
  • Handle conflict resolution and performance management of the team, resolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably, including documentation if necessary.
  • Train and develop crew members into professional personnel with the assistance of the wood management team.

Upholding Company And Safety Standards

  • Ensure crews follow proper ANSI, OSHA, customer standards, procedures, and quality expectations within all scope of work performance.
  • Hold team members accountable for following policies, procedures, and standards of work, which may include writing and issuing disciplinary actions when applicable.
  • Ensure fleet protocols are followed, including maintenance upkeep and reporting.
  • Follow safety practices to safeguard against injury to yourself, crew(s), and damage to company, public, and customer property.

Extensive drive times are often required, and you may be called upon for overtime and emergency response work.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of experience in the tree industry
  • ISA Arborist certification
  • Ability to use and adapt to new software
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ArcGIS
  • Thorough understanding of wood removal operations and machinery
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and workers, and discussing technical details with other vegetation specialists and the public
  • Writing skills for project planning and documenting work progress for clients and others involved
  • Technical skills for interpreting wood extraction and clean-up methods
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills
  • Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to team members and wood management crews
  • Decision-making skills for selecting personnel for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines
  • Customer-service skills to communicate with property owners and the team to develop positive working relationships
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Willingness to travel during the week

Desired Qualifications

  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Bilingual proficiency
  • Reforestation and restoration experience
  • Fire experience or fuels inventory and project layout experience
