West Coast Director, Editorial Projects

The West Coast Director, Editorial Projects, Vanity Fair develops and harnesses strong relationships with celebrities, PR execs, LA-based clients, and Hollywood agents to support Vanity Fair’s editorial mission and coverage, as well as to drive incremental revenue for Vanity Fair through sponsored, high-touch editorial-led events with talent participation.

Reporting to VF’s Deputy Editor, the role requires independent thinking, sophisticated judgment and problem-solving, and an ability to capitalize on the intersection of the VF brand image with talent, culture, and business. This role is a key connector across the VF internal team—from editorial to marketing to sales/commercial to the Global Talent Group—playing a highly strategic part in shaping the editorial and marketing agenda for the Vanity Fair brand in Hollywood (a major tentpole region) and at film festivals worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between Vanity Fair and Hollywood studios, streamers, agencies, talent publicists, and other entertainment industry leaders
  • Book talent for editorial coverage, portrait studios, and live events
  • Work closely with the deputy editor, events team, and Conde Nast Talent Group to help develop and execute the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. This includes wrangling talent, managing the guest list, hosting industry leaders, and assisting with event execution and editorial coverage.
  • Develop and help to execute new editorial event opportunities for Vanity Fair during film festivals, awards season, and other marquee calendar moments.
  • Partner with sales and marketing on conceptualizing events with advertising clients throughout the year and build and maintain relationships with advertisers
  • Participate in Vanity Fair’s podcasts
  • Represent VF editorial internally and externally on sales calls, on stage in a moderating capacity, hosting dinners, etc.
  • Edit and write stories, where appropriate
  • Staff photo shoots and assist with talent/publicist management on set
  • Additional duties as assigned by your supervisor

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven decision-making skills and business acumen at a senior level, especially concerning brand identity and taste, as part of determining what is appropriate for VF
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and communication skills
  • Proven relationships with senior publicists and other talent reps, studios, and other power players in Hollywood (at least 5 years of experience in managing such relationships)
  • Exceptional discretion and confidentiality: this role comes with insight into financials on events, sponsorships, and other entertainment-related partnership opportunities
  • Trustworthiness: the person holding this role will need to represent VF with major internal and external stakeholders (clients and partners, production teams, TTG, sales & marketing)
