Water Resources Engineer

Position: Hydraulic Modeler / Water Resources Engineer; Full or Part-time available

 

Company: River Focus, Inc. is a certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) providing water resources engineering consulting services in California, Hawaii, Washington, and Montana (and expanding to other states).

 

Location: Remote

River Focus is based in the San Diego, California area; however, this is a remote position and relocation is not required.

 

Experience Requirements: 2 to 10+ years of related water resources experience

 

Job Responsibilities:

Primary tasks and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Conduct water resources engineering studies.
  • Perform 1-D and 2-D hydraulic modeling, including model development and calibration.
  • Perform sediment transport analysis and scour calculations.
  • Creatively work on complex hydrologic and hydraulic engineering projects.
  • Prepare technical study reports and technical memos.
  • Analyze and perform hydraulic design of channels, detention basins, and other hydraulic structures.
  • Use QGIS and/or ArcGIS to pre- and post-process GIS data and to prepare maps and graphics.
  • Perform data analysis using spreadsheets or other engineering or scientific software.
  • Perform field reconnaissance visits to project sites (optional, depending on remote location vs. project locations).
  • Other duties as required for water resources engineering projects.

 

Required Skills (Technical and Non-Technical):

A successful candidate should have the following skills:

  • Knowledge of HEC models including HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently and manage time.
  • Ability and desire to work well as part of a project team.
  • Knowledge of GIS software is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills. Knowledge of programming is a plus.

 

Education:

Master’s Degree in a water resources field (including Civil and Environmental Engineering) is preferred, but we are open to bright professionals from other related fields.
