As one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S., and with growth around the world, we are seeking candidates for the role of Engineer in Training to work on Water Resources related projects with our Water Delivery team in Columbia, SC.

Woolpert’s Columbia, SC office seeks a full-time Water Resources Engineer/ Scientist to support National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Water Act permits for our esteemed clients. This pivotal role involves SCADA integrations at remote monitoring stations, focusing on enhancing sensor applications to address municipal water challenges. The position entails hands-on work with diverse hardware such as Campbell Scientific instrumentation, multi-parameter sondes, meteorological sensors, telemetry systems, cellular modems, radio frequency devices, and other control systems. This candidate will be in the field 51% - 60% of the time and has the opportunity to work with staff in various Woolpert offices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) integrations.
  • Perform fieldwork, including installation, operation, and maintenance of monitoring stations.
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage systems and telemetry challenges.
  • Calibrate multi-parameter sondes and collect discrete samples.
  • Utilize time-series data management software for water quality data correction, statistical analysis, and report writing.
  • Enhancing existing programs and processes to improve efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems, or Agricultural Engineering preferred.
  • Associate degree in Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or similar degree, plus two years experience
  • Experience or coursework in SCADA systems and familiarity with Campbell Scientific equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-machine interfaces (HMIs), sensors, and relevant software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with water-related field equipment and operational procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Experience with R, Python, and CRBasic programming languages
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory driving record, be willing to travel locally and overnight, and work overtime as needed.
