Salary: $22.95 - $34.67 Hourly Location : Cedar Park, TX Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 202400059 Department: Public Works Division: Water Distribution Opening Date: 05/10/2024 Closing Date: 7/12/2024 5:00 PM Central The City of Cedar Park The Position JOB SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Utility Foreman, the Water Quality Technician performs a variety of tests, repairs and services to ensure water quality throughout the city. Work includes collecting drinking water samples in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards for analysis by the City's designated laboratory; assisting with reviewing and analyzing laboratory results; testing, flushing repairing and installing water mains, lines and fire hydrants; and responding to a variety of customer service requests and complaints. When assigned, also performs the duties of Utility Operator II. This position is included in the On-Call rotation and is subject to duties of the On-Call staff. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs the collection of water quality samples in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures as well as the TCEQ approved water quality sampling plan. Ensures collected water quality samples are free of bacteria. Ensures the quantity of required samples are delivered to the city's approved laboratory each month. Coordinates collection of water samples with contractors and staff. Operates water valves, water quality sampling stations, meters and hydrants. Operates HACH spectro-photometer and Trimble Geographic Positioning System units. Coordinates with TCEQ to ensure compliance with state statutes and Texas Administrative Code for public drinking water systems. Responds to "Taste and Odor" complaints from the general public. Evaluates the valve maintenance program and make recommendations regarding the program. Performs tie-ins and testing of water mains. Performs maintenance on and testing of water towers. Exercises water valves. Safely operates valve-turning equipment. Maintains and tests fire hydrants and performs end-line flushing. Performs fire-flow testing from fire hydrants and other facilities and reports the flow rates accurately. Conducts distribution system and production flow and pressure tests. Assists and performs leak detection. Plans and coordinates proposed water service interruptions to the City's commercial customers. Maintains vegetation inside the water storage and booster station facilities. Monitors the coating integrity of water storage facilities. Monitors and maintains the security systems and fencing around water storage facilities. Prepares informational reports on a daily or weekly basis, as required. Prepare and completes work orders. Receives and investigates consumer/citizen complaint and takes appropriate action. Routes information and materials to appropriate personnel. Resolves work-related problems. Prioritizes projects and work activities. Follows safety rules. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses High School Diploma, or its equivalent; plus, two to three (2-3) years of experience in public water distribution systems, including compliance with TCEQ requirements; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 180 days (pending availability of class offering), with an acceptable driving record. Water Quality Technician I: Class C Water Distribution License Water Quality Technician II: Must have at least two of the following licenses: Class II or Class III Wastewater Collection License Class C or Class B Water Distribution License Class C or Class B Surface Water Treatment license Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: water distribution systems; water quality testing techniques; personnel policies and procedures; basic mathematical practices. Skill/Ability to : safely operate highly specialized equipment used in performing the duties assigned to this position; apply safety standards to prevent hazards; prepare reports neatly and accurately; maintain the chain of custody and integrity of water samples, operate personal computer using standard word processing, spreadsheet, and data inquiry; make simple mathematical computations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; and tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
