VP of Mortgage

Role

Serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the SVP Mortgage Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of real estate. This role provides direction and strategy during development and execution of accepted new concepts and partners with other departments, plans and oversees Mortgage department. Responsible for enabling the efficient and effective governance of significant risks, and related opportunities to the credit union. As a member of the senior management team, participates in planning corporate growth and coordinating the strategic plan with the development of these two departments.

Effectively manages loan production/quality through the establishment of key performance measures, managing and training staff, coordinating for regular marketing campaigns, and developing new mortgage related products.

Oversees Mortgage Loan Department functions and supervises department staff; hires, reviews, schedules, trains, directs, and monitors the work of direct reports; conducts performance reviews; allocates resources to meet operational needs within the department; reviews and approves, denies, or modifies department recommendations for subordinates.

Interviews, underwrites, approves, and closes loans.

Oversees and evaluates products and procedures currently in place and implements changes as needed.

Works with the Marketing department to develop mortgage loan promotions and regularly execute marketing campaigns.

Coordinates mortgage loan training and education for the credit union staff.

Performance Measurements

Lead the Mortgage department to originate, process, underwrite, fund and service high-quality mortgage loans.

Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies to expand the existing portfolio with loan assets that are structured and priced to meet credit union objectives.

Establish monitor and report on operating activity and key metrics to ensure processes are efficient, reliable and compliant with internal and external quality standards, investor guidelines and operate within established risk parameters. Establish and maintain an effective relationship with user departments, senior management, and vendors.

Monitor and evaluate emerging trends in the market; be proactive in changing or adding to the product and service mix in accordance with the Credit Union’s strategic, financial and member goals and needs. Lead a continuous improvement effort to improve overall operations, e.g. decreased turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work collaboratively to ensure quality seamless member service.

Develop and maintain a highly qualified staff possessing maintaining knowledge of all mortgage products and rates both with the credit union and the industry as a whole, sufficient to meet the daily lending demands for Credit Union Membership.

Ensure all mortgage lending activity is in compliance with established policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Ensure the department meets or exceeds 100% of established goals and that direct reports achieve 100% of their individual goals.

Experience

Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum 6 years of real estate lending experience, to include experience with mortgage loan pricing, originations, processing, investor development and servicing. Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience with demonstrated ability to effectively lead a mortgage team.

Education

Bachelors in business, finance, accounting or related field.

Interpersonal Skills

Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills

Demonstrated proficiency with mortgage lending software. Must be eligible for registration with NMLS.
