VP of Business Development (Energy)

Hillwood Energy, a Perot Company, has a long history in the oil & gas industry with assets in the United States and globally. Our current assets include operated and non-operated working interests in Texas, mineral interests across the US, and HKN Energy Ltd (www.hknenergy.com) which operates the Sarsang Block in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Position Summary:

Hillwood Energy is currently seeking a Vice President of Business Development (VP) to join our dynamic team in DFW, which will be reporting to our CEO. The VP will play a key role within the organization and work closely with the executive management team to drive and grow our domestic (U.S.) asset base. The VP will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and overseeing potential deals from inception to close.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, and execute Hillwood Energy’s business development strategy in alignment with the CEO’s vision to grow the domestic Oil & Gas (O&G) business.
  • Maintain and grow extensive O&G network through attending industry events and joining O&G Associations.
  • Formulate targeted strategies for engaging with private and public companies, Private Equity (PE) firms, investment banks, and Acquisition & Divestiture (“A&D”) advisory firms to pursue potential opportunities.
  • Source both marketed and non-marketed deals through diverse channels, leveraging relationships with bankers, lenders, restructuring firms, and industry connections.
  • Promote Hillwood as a preferred buyer of targeted assets, enhancing the company's reputation and visibility in the market.
  • Oversee the entire transaction lifecycle for domestic O&G opportunities, from initial identification to finalization.
  • Collaborate with in-house petroleum engineers, geologists and financial analysts to vet feasibility and economic returns for potential deals.
  • Coordinate the due diligence process with internal and external legal counsels to ensure compliance and mitigate legal and financial risks.
  • Negotiate agreements and contracts, including but not limited to, leases (both mineral and surface use) and rights of way with landowners and their attorneys, joint operating agreements (JOAs) with partners, joint venture agreements, Drill-to-Earn agreements, confidentiality agreements and Purchase Sale Agreements (“PSA’s”).
  • Coordinate with engineers and accountants to conduct due diligence on lease operating statements (LOS) assumptions, title, and marketing strategies.
  • Manage the land department and oversee the land processes, including mapping, title, title curative, division orders, leases and contract broker management.
  • Furnish weekly reporting and obtain approvals through internal Business Development committee (CEO, President, CFO and VP Finance).

  • Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and various other parties.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be a collaborative team player.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required.
  • 15-20 years of relevant business development and transaction experience in O&G.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a Land team and collaborating with Engineering, Geology and Finance teams required.
  • Established Oil & Gas network required.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and executing on O&G business development strategies quantified by overall business and revenue growth.
  • Prior experience with O&G marketing preferred.
  • Reservoir engineering experience, a plus.
  • Familiarity and comfort with transaction economics, current deal metrics and returns analysis, required.
  • Familiarity with midstream deals preferred.
