VP, Marketing

Hachette Book Group is looking for a Vice President of Marketing to lead the central marketing and commercial analytics team. The VP of Marketing will work closely with the publishing divisions’ marketing teams to expand audience reach, drive discovery for our books and authors, and develop HBG’s marketing capabilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing a direct-to-consumer marketing program, supervising advertising strategy and execution, leading marketing technology projects, and developing the analytical framework for understanding the market, our consumers, and the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. A deep understanding of the latest marketing technology, sharp analytical skills, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate well with a broad group of stakeholders are critical to the success of this role.

The role is NYC based, and the candidate will need to be in the office two days a week as part of the hybrid working policy at HBG.

Responsibilities:

  • Forge close relationships with the publishing divisions’ marketing teams, support the exchange of insights and best practices, and foster a collaborate and supportive community for all marketers.
  • Manage HBG’s newsletter program, social channels, community sites, and website content with the goal of expanding our audiences and driving discovery of our books and authors.
  • Oversee the development of marketing tools and technology in close collaboration with HBG’s IT department and external technology providers, ensuring that technology is informed by an understanding of publishing workflows and KPIs.
  • Supervise HBG’s marketing analytics and the development of insightful reporting, encompassing consumer insights, market trends, and marketing performance.
  • Manage HBG’s Commercial Analytics team, which provides sales and marketplace analysis to all internal stakeholders and collaborates closely with HBG’s IT department to advance our data architecture and reporting tools.
  • Continue the advancement of HBG’s advertising strategies and media investments, leveraging analytics to optimize campaigns for ROI and negotiate rates and upfronts with our media partners.
  • Manage and advance HBG’s metadata and online retail optimization programs, including the development of product images and A+ content to optimize online retail experiences.
  • Drive the development and grow revenue of HBG’s direct-to-consumer ecommerce business, including direct sales through HBG’s website as well as social platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record managing email and social media marketing programs that deliver measurable results and ROI
  • Experience with website development, encompassing content development, design and functionality, analytics, and SEO
  • Strong knowledge of audience insights development and audience segmentation strategies
  • Extensive experience with the development of reporting and analytics that deliver actionable insights
  • Experience with, or the desire to learn about, the book publishing business and the dynamics of the marketplace preferred
  • Proven track record creating marketing campaigns that reach and engage diverse audiences
  • Experience with the latest strategies in programmatic advertising and deep familiarity with Meta, Amazon, and Google ad platforms
  • Experience with ecommerce and a track record of growing a direct-to-consumer sales business
  • A proven track record of innovative, creative thinking, and developing new ideas to reach and engage consumers. Experience driving results while balancing creativity with analytical thinking and business strategy
  • Previous experience managing and leading a cross-functional team, fostering collaboration and an ownership mentality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to persuade and motivate various collaborators and stakeholders
  • Unflappable attention to detail and ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Minimum 10+ years experiences in marketing

The compensation range for this position is $165,000-$180,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
