AARP’s Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. It delivers on AARP’s social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that help give people financial and health security.

As the Vice President for Campaigns Integration for the Campaigns Team within Community, States, and National Affairs (CSN) Group at AARP, you will lead and manage a team that is focused on providing the day-to-day program operations of the Campaigns Integration Unit, to include program management, resourcing, large scale budget development and management, and coordination of incoming and future activities. You will partner closely with the Vice President of Advocacy Outreach and Mobilization to ensure on-time tactical delivery of critical issue campaigns. Develop structured framework(s) for the team to positively impact advocacy efforts by partnering and coordinating across the Campaigns Unit and other teams within Community, State and National Affairs (CSN). These teams include Government Affairs and regional advisor as well as advocacy, grassroots and volunteer leads in state locations throughout the United States. You will also partner with the Senior Vice President to provide thought partnership on the strategic vision and help determine impact of the Campaign team's work on the organizational level strategic plan and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Creates direction to ensure successful daily operations and workflow.
  • Oversees the CSN portfolio to execute short-term and long-term, multi-faceted campaigns focused on supporting effective campaign plans (legislative and educational) that integrate existing organization activities and resources to impact issue areas.
  • Identifies rapid-response opportunities to advance campaign strategies and helps to effectively execute these opportunities.
  • Monitors progress toward key goals and desired outcomes across all active campaigns.
  • Informs and prepares to take initiative to intervene and keep programs on track daily.
  • Manages a portfolio of projects that support DEI advocacy efforts and oversees workflow and impact of implemented strategies.
  • Provides strategic thought partnership, in collaboration with the SVP, Campaigns, in designing, planning, and executing multi-year campaigns.
  • Oversees a team of campaign and project management experts responsible for the multi-faceted short-term and long-term campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the job.
  • Extensive experience in strategic thinking, strategy development, analysis, planning and the management of large-scale strategic projects.
  • Prior experience in campaign management either around specific issue areas, candidates, or public issues.
  • Previous experience successfully managing a team of direct reports.
  • Proven track record engaging and influencing key stakeholders in a highly matrix organization across multiple locations.
  • Understanding of macro-political and the world of public policy.
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work successfully in an environment with changing priorities and time-critical deadlines.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
